QMC COMPUTER RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP

Welcome to the homepage of the 2010 Computer World Rally Championship
This year the full season will run using the Playstation 2 software WRC 4 and will comprise of seven rounds (6 to count) and will all be those ‘Classic’ Rallies that everybody loves. These seven ‘Classics’ will be nominated but then a draw will take place on the night. Car Classes will also be randomly drawn on the night from S1600, Group N, WRC and Extreme Cars.
Which event will take place on which night will not be known until the night of the competition itself, so no advantage for those sad ones amongst us with nothing better to do than practice day after day before an event! At 20.30hrs on each of the clubnights involved, the names of the remaining rounds of the WRC will be placed in a hat and the first one pulled out will be the surprise event for that round of the Quinton Computer WR Championship! Tarmac or gravel, snow or shine, rain or ice – whatever – the event will start minutes later!
The Championship gives the greatest fun (and even more opportunity to show your raw talent!) that you can have in front of a TV screen with like-minded rally fans, so come along and show your clubmates what you can do! The Championship is open to all members – young and old - AND IT’S FREE!!!!!
Full details of the events and the regulations are available from this page or for a hard copy contact Steve Bonham on 0121 556 4379 or email at sideways1@btinternet.com or contact Steve Griffin on 07965646055 or stevie.g91@hotmail.co.uk . If you are ready and raring to start the new season, make a note in your diary that on 9th February the service park opens at 20.30 and full-blown rally action starts soon after! No entry forms necessary – just see you there!

ROUND 5 – Great Britain
With all previous rounds of the Quinton Computer Rally Championship won be Griffin, going into round 5, Griffin was 14 points ahead in the championship and his nearest rival being Hardy. However the signing on sheet did not show Hardy’s name meaning that it was down to Fieldhouse to stop Griffin’s winning streak. Things were not looking in Favour of Fieldhouse as picked out of the hat was Great Britain, a Round that Griffin has won 2 times in a row. The car that competitors would be using was the championship familiars in previous years, the WRC cars. With a small turn out of competitors all of GB’s long stages could be used.
First through SS1 was Fieldhouse, looking as neat as ever on the extremely slippy stage. With Fieldhouse putting down a performance like that, Griffin Knew his winning streak was looking finished. Griffin was using his championship winning Subaru but had forgotten how slippy GB’s stages were meaning he was even more sideways then he usually is. But with even Griffins commitment, he could not beat the precise Fieldhouse who set fastest stage time by 2 seconds from Griffin. Further down the field after missing the last round, Howard could earn some valuable championships with the absence of Hardy. Behind the wheel of his usual Skoda, Howard was looking on form setting a 3rd fastest time even managing to roll his Fabia commenting on it being a ‘light one’. 10 seconds down on Howard was the Subaru of Aston who returned to the championship. 5th fastest was Bowles was looking to have his best finish in the championship to date. 6th fastest stage time went to ‘Mr consistent’, Bonham brining the second Citroen home.
After being thrown into SS1, Griffin adjusted his driving style to match that of the slippy roads of GB and to also beat his rival Fieldhouse. With Griffin being on the limit everywhere and looking like spinning on every corner, he still could not match Fieldhouse’s times and lost just 2/10ths. It was still all to play for as Fieldhouse was leading overall by 2.2 seconds. Now, not trying to roll his Fabia, Howard set a 3rd fastest time and with Griffin and Fieldhouse going flat-out, would consistency take the win? 15 seconds down on Howard was Aston, not showing the performance of the last round; Bowles was a further 8 seconds down on Aston. Again, rounding off the field was Bonham, only 12 seconds down on Bowles.
Fieldhouse was first through the stage but with Griffin not watching his rivals run, he was unaware of weather to still go flat out or back off and just finish. As Griffin took his seat, he noticed a disappointed Fieldhouse. However sticking with his driving style, Griffin attacked the stage to take away that 2.2 deficit. At the end of the stage and the relief of finishing with no incidents, Griffin was awarded a fastest stage time beating Fieldhouse by 10 seconds which also meant there was a new rally leader. Howard set another 3rd fastest time and acquired a co-driver. Griffin talking through the stage with Howard to insure of more competition on the event. 12 seconds down on Howard was again Aston showing a consistent pace. 20 seconds further down was Bowles and only 10 seconds behind him was Bonham.
Into the last stage of GB and should be of every WRC championship, Margham Park would decide the rally winner. With Fieldhouse going first, Griffin was now watching to insure he got the win. Into the Tarmac section of the stage and a flat-out jump would catch out Fieldhouse, this sent the Citroen into a high speed roll, But the car landed on all fours and managed to carry on without damage or too much time lost. Even though this mistake, Fieldhouse lost just 5 seconds to Griffin who secured his 3 GB victory. Aston had now beaten Howard on SS4 by 10 seconds as Howard had hit a Hay bale not far from the end and commenting with ‘Roger Clark done it’ but Howard taking 3rd overall. Bowles and Bonham finishing the field.
A more exciting night then the previous round in Sweden and some great competition, was one of the best rounds this year with Griffin being pushed for his win. Again a big thanks to all competitors and Chief Time Keeper Mike Stratton coping with all the times. SRG.

ROUND 4 – Sweden
For the First time in around 3 seasons, Sweden was drawn for the nights competing on the Quinton Computer World Rally Championship, to which many competitors have missed from previous years championships. Being new to the championship it would be a level playing field as well as the Group N machinery that was chosen out of the hat. This meant the choice of only 3 cars. Championship leader, Griffin had once again surprised competitors by not using his usual Subaru but by using the Mitsubishi. Hardy and Fieldhouse would be appearing in Subaru’s making for an interesting battle at the top.
Into the new stage with the underpowered Group N machinery, which Sweden was a favourite for Hardy and Griffin. First to complete the stage in the fastest time was Griffin trying his hardest to keep the power on in his Mitsubishi. Just 5 seconds down from Griffin was Hardy not enjoying the underpowered car. 3rd fastest through SS1 was Fieldhouse who liked the handling of the Group N cars but also commented on their lack of power. Only 9 seconds behind Fieldhouse was Bowles putting in a fantastic attempt in an unusual car a Proton PERT. Thompson appearing for the 2nd time this season was down on Bowles by 7 seconds and ahead of ‘Mr Consistent’ Bonham by 22 seconds.
SS2 lead to another stage win for Griffin who was using the snow banks to full affect bouncing the Mitsubishi off them almost every corner, skill or just too fast into the corners? With a fight developing for second and third between Fieldhouse and Hardy, SS2 saw both drivers swap overall places in the rally as Fieldhouse beat Hardy by 11 seconds. Bowles had a cracking stage only lost out to 3rd fastest time by just 4 seconds and getting into his rhythm nicely showing he might be a top contender for next years QCWRC. Slowly catching Bowles was Thompson who was only 2 seconds off Bowles’ pace. Another 10 second’s down was Bonham in his Subaru.
With Griffin now leading by 17 seconds it was down to either Fieldhouse or Hardy to stop him taking another stage win. But determined not to lose out, Griffin was still using his committed driving style to beat Fieldhouse by 2 seconds. Just 2/10ths down was Hardy and Griffin was now being chased down. Bowles had now been knocked off setting 4th fastest time by Thompson who set a time 12 seconds off Hardy’s pace. Bowles was a further 7 seconds down. Bonham was closest he’s ever been to not being last fastest time and only lost out by 2 seconds, and having one of his best stages all year.
SS4 was the only chance that Fieldhouse and Hardy had to stop Griffin taking the win. Looking at Griffins performance on which he called ‘lazy’ was the perfect chance for his rivals to take advantage. Fieldhouse had done so by 4 seconds but not enough to take the rally win. Hardy also not having a great stage and was a further 12 seconds down on Griffin. Bowles was back to setting a 4th fastest time by a small margin as he beat Thompson by just 2 seconds. Bonham having a shocking stage and setting a time 35 seconds away from Thompson.
With most competitors not enjoying the night due to the slow cars, was a bit disappointing for Championship organisers. Big thanks to Chief Timekeeper for keeping things in check.

History of the Computer Rally Championship.
The Quinton MC Computer World Rally Championship homepage. For the past 9 years the Club has hosted a competitive and exciting computer rally championship. On specified clubnights, up to three TVs and Playstation consoles are made available for members to take part in a virtual world rally championship event, previously using such software as Colin McRae Rally 1 & 2 and WRC Xtreme, but in 2010 we will, once again, be exclusively using WRC 4. The events make for some exciting clubnights when members can emulate their rally heroes by driving in some of the classic events of the World Rally Championship. With ‘proper’ regulations and points awarded for finishing positions (just like the real thing!), updated championship tables will be available on this page and the final podium finishers are crowned at the Club’s Awards’ Night and presented with suitably impressive trophies by real rally stars, including our ‘very own’ Vice-President Nicky Grist!
